BATTERY REMOVED AND LAPTOP UNPLUGED
I am not going to start with the easy part of removing the keyboard and the palm rest as you can easily get that here:
Once the keyboard and palm rest are removed this is
what the inside looks like. The keyboard garnish
needs to be removed. In order to do this the two corner
bolts under the laptop need to be removed(the manual
I downloaded from Lenovo was inaccurate here) look at the picture below.
I also needed to remove these 2 bolts attached to the chassis before the garnish can be removed.
Once I had the garnish removed I needed to get the left speaker loosened by means of the 2 bolts holding it at the top and bottom(see pic below).
Please note that some wiring is taped to the heat sink/fan assembly as well as some routed under one of the clamps holding the plate over the chip set/GPU(lower center of pic on left). Care needs to be taken not to damage these wires during the removal of the heat sink/fan. This is also a good time to disconnect the CPU fan from the motherboard.
Now I removed the heat sink/fan assembly by first taking the 4 bolts holding the 2 clamps over the chip set/GPU(left pic) and then the 4 bolts in a cross pattern over the CPU.
With the heat sink/fan out of the way you can now see the CPU and the chip set/GPU.
The thermal grease is clearly visible and needs to be cleaned and reapplied once the new CPU is in. To install the new CPU I turned the black screw on the socket counter clockwise to loosen the old CPU and clockwise once the new CPU was properly lined up with the little arrow pointing AWAY/RIGHT.
With the new CPU in and the old one out. It's time to do some cleaning. It is important to cleanboth the CPU, GPU and the heat sink Alcohol and Q-tips is my favorite way to do this. It's very important to make sure that after the thermal grease was removed that everything was completely dry before new thermal grease was applied, so I used a hair dryer at the lowest possible setting to make sure I did not damage anything (see pics below).
Here is a pic of the new CPU and chip set with thermal grease applied just before the heat sink/fan assembly was reinstalled.

Booting up and the new CPU is recognized!!!

All in all I can notice a significant difference in Vista as the system boots faster and it's much more responsive. I am glad I did this as I plan to keep this laptop for a couple of years. I hope you found this entertaining but please remember doing this type of surgery voids your warranty and runs the risk of bricking your equipment. It's also imperative that proper research is performed ahead of time to make sure that the new CPU is compatible with your system. I will not be responsible if anyone gets any ideas after reading this and screws up their equipment.

One of our viewers was bugged by this problem that his Anti Virus Avast gave him a warning of presence of virus “Win32:Kavos[Trj]” in cv22.cmd file along with the presence of “Win32:KillAV-KI[Trj]” Virus in pagefile.sys.
As usual the virus started making various problems and all weird
things started happening like the disabling of drive opening by double
click among others. The viruses listed above are more specifically
Trojans and can be removed as follows.
Solution:
• Log in the safe mode.
• Turn off the System Restore, to delete all the
viruses whose backup has been taken by it. Right click on My
Computer-> Properties-> System Restore tab-> click on Turn off
System Restore on all drives. You may need to restart the computer.
• Download Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware that will clean your system from Malwares, hopefully this one too.
• Also scan the system with Search and Destroy that is made to remove these viruses.
• You can also try scanning with Kaspersky Online Scanner.
Hope any of the above solves your problem.

Elég idegesítő dolog, amikor noteszgépünk üzemideje nem képes lépést
tartani igényeinkkel: például szeretnénk, ha legalább két órát simán
elböngészhetnénk rajta kedvenc kávézónkban, vagy a repülőtéren. Ebben a
vágyunkban segíthet a Notebook Hardware Control, amely a processzor
teljesítményigényének agresszívebb változtatásával egész jó eredmény
elérésére képes.
A programot egy idősebb noteszgépen próbáltuk ki, amelyet használtan
vásároltunk. Az ilyen használtan vett gépeknek egy igazi gyenge pontja
van, és ez az elhasznált akkumulátor. Mivel a Li-Ion cellák nem
örökéletűek, gyakran előfordul, hogy a 4-5 éves noteszgép eredeti
üzemidejének már csak 40-45%-ára képes. Egy új akkumulátorért gyakran
30-40 ezer forintot is elkérnek, ami egy 100 ezer forintos noteszgép
esetében nem igazán tűnik jó befektetésnek. Próbáljuk tehát ki, mit
tudunk szoftveresen javítani!

Az NHC-t Manfred Jaider honlapjáról
tudjuk letölteni, nagyjából 2 MB a mérete, tehát pillanatok alatt
megérkezik. Futtatásához azonban szükség lesz még a .Net Framework
2.0-ára is, amelyet szokás szerint a Microsofttól kell megszereznünk.
A program telepítése letöltéséhez hasonlóan gyors, és elindítása után
többféle ikon jelenik meg a tálcán, amelyek segítségével a processzor
kihasználtságától a becsült hátralévő üzemidőig sok mindent
leolvashatunk. A legérdekesebb ezek közül alighanem az a nagyméretű
„elem”, amely a Windows gyári ikonjánál sokkal egyszerűbben
leolvashatóvá teszi az akkutöltöttséget. Persze ha valaki túl soknak
érezné az információt, vagy csak tisztább tálcát szeretne, nyugodtan
testreszabhatja a megjelenő elemeket a Settings fül Advanced settings
menüpontja alatt.
A program tudásszintje erősen függ a számítógépben található hardvertől
– az általunk „tesztelt”, Centrino platformos noteszgépben például
szinte a teljes tudását kihasználhattuk. Lehetőségünk van például a
processzor terhelésétől függően megadni, hogy mikor milyen frekvencián
üzemeljen a CPU, illetve hogy az adott frekvenciához (jobban mondva
szorzóhoz) mekkora feszültség tartozzon.
A CPU energiafelvételét finomhangolhatjuk
Változtathatunk az alaplapi buszsebességen és belepiszkálhatunk az
videokártya és a merevlemez energiagazdálkodásába is. Érdemes a
szoftver nyújtotta lehetőségeket végigpróbálgatni, mert sok beállítási
opció van, és számítógépenként változhat, hogy melyikkel érjük el a
legjobb eredményt.
Tesztgépünk esetében először is lemértük az üzemidőt – átlagos
felhasználást szimulálva 1 óra 41 percet értünk el (ez három mérés
átlaga). Ez nem mondható igazán jó eredménynek, de figyelembe véve a
notebook korát és akkumulátor állapotát (wear level: 43%, azaz már
majdnem az életkor felénél járunk) még elfogadható.
Akkumulátorunk már kissé viseletes
Ezek után elindítottuk az NHC-t, és finomhangoltuk a processzor
működési frekvenciáit, valamint az egyes lépcsőfokokhoz tartozó
feszültségértékeket is. Ezeket érdemes letesztelni, mert a túl alacsony
feszültség instabillá teheti gépünket, akkor pedig hiába a hosszabb
üzemidő!
A végeredmény: 1 óra 52 percre sikerült javítanunk az üzemidőt, amely
nem tűnik soknak, de mégis körülbelül 10 percnyi plusz munkát (ez
10,9%-os javulás) nyertünk teljesen ingyen. Csak úgy
összehasonlításként: egy új akkumulátorral 3 óra 21 percig működött
noteszgépünk – 35 ezer forintért cserébe.
